How Facilities Responds to Smoke and Wildfire Events

Facilities Management's teams maintain our building's critical air-conditioning and ventilation systems throughout the year. We have over 1,400 buildings on the Davis campus and they perform well, however, each building performs differently based on its age, the equipment in the building and critical human factors — we cannot stress enough the importance of keeping doors and windows closed when it's smoky outdoors.

UV Lights Shine at the Waste Water Treatment Plant

Brad Butterfield and his team manage the UC Davis WWTP. During a recent tour, they showed the latest technology in using UV light to sanitize wastewater as it passes through the UV light system. A significant overhaul of the system updated the equipment.

Uncovering Energy Savings at Vet Med 3A MPT

A team effort between the Energy & Engineering team, and Building Maintenance Services (BMS) shops for sheet metal, ventilation, plumbing, and electrical created a big win at the Vet Med 3A Multipurpose Teaching (MPT) facility.

Making a Difference with Deferred Maintenance

The Asset Management Facilities Condition Assessment (FCA) and ICAMP teams within Facilities Management (FM) are currently tracking nearly 200 deferred maintenance projects funded by Assembly Bill 94 (AB94) from 2019, 2020, and 2021 along with the State Budget Act from 2021. What a huge undertaking! Let’s check in with the team and see where we are today.

These teams consist of:

Beneath the Surface - Fish Tank Heater Saves Thousands in Energy

When an outdated heating system caused the water temperature in Storer Hall’s tropical fish lab to drop to dangerously low levels, Facilities Management’s Building Maintenance Services (BMS) HVAC and Energy and Engineering team collaborated with the Laskowski Lab researchers to improve operations.

Changing the Norm Saves Energy

No idea is too big or small when saving energy and improving systems. Joe Lestanguet, Inspector, Planner, and Estimator for Facilities Management Building Maintenance Services (FM BMS), shared an energy-saving idea with Sam Cole, an Energy Project Engineer from the Energy and Engineering office, and they recently implemented the project together.

Customer Experience is a Hub of Activity!

All work orders and follow-up information flow through the Customer Experience Center. You can feel the charge in the air from all of the moving parts being put into place as this group takes information from customers and ensures it goes to the right technician quickly.
