Employee Spotlight: Brian Lima

Brian Lima works as a Controls Project Engineer for Energy & Engineering and has been with Facilities Management for two years. Brian has lived in Davis for the past 9 years and heard about the job from a friend. Because he resides in Davis, Brian enjoys being close to home and being able to bike to work.

Student Spotlight: Monet Kunz

Meet Monet Kunz, who will enter her fifth year in the fall double majoring in Civil and Environmental Engineering. She has worked in the Energy and Engineering Office as a Green Building intern since last October. Monet has been working on the Energy and Atmosphere category of the LEED certification team (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, which is a green building certification system).

Employee Spotlight: Peter Maxwell

This month we had the pleasure of getting to know Peter Maxwell from the Facilities Management Asset Management unit. He is a part of the Portfolio Management and Preventative Maintenance team, which is responsible for developing the UC Davis Preventative Maintenance Program that provides life-cycle analysis, planning, and maintaining of over 50,000 assets. Student Spotlight: Juan Salas

Juan Salas is a fourth-year Mathematical Analytics and Operations Research major with a double minor in Computer Sciences and Statistics. Juan has been working as an intern in the Operations Support office since January 2021, and his duties include assisting the Customer Experience Center with utility shutdown notices, updating and maintaining contact lists, and various other tasks as they come up. Customer Spotlight: Chad Brown

Chad Brown has been working for UC Davis for just over 21 years. Currently, he is Operations Manager for the Operations and Event Management/Student Affairs team. Chad works with two other managers to maintain operations, custodial, and grounds services for fifteen buildings that fall under the Student Affairs Organization here at UC Davis. When asked what his favorite part of his job was, Chad replied, “[he] loves being part of a team that is committed to ensuring their buildings are at the best level of service.”

Employee Spotlight: Marlene Slichter

This month we would like to introduce Marlene Slichter, Lead Custodian for Custodial Services at Facilities Management. She has worked for Facilities for 20 years, and lives in Davis. Marlene likes working for FM as it has given her many opportunities for continued education as well as self-improvement. Her duties include helping supervisors with whatever is needed to make campus a cleaner and safer place for staff, faculty, and students. Read on to learn more about Marlene!

Employee Spotlight: Joel McCoy

Joel McCoy, the superintendent for the Utilities Gas and Water Department, has worked for Facilities for 14 years and has been with Utilities for 13 years. His favorite part about working for Utilities is being a part of an amazing team that accomplishes truly incredible things that keep the campus running smoothly.

Graduating Energy and Engineering Students

This month we are shining our student spotlight on five Facilities Management Energy & Engineering student interns that will soon be graduating. Energy & Engineering is home to a number of student interns with various backgrounds who are able to get hands-on experience in the engineering field and beyond. Besides engineering internships they offer students positions in communications, data analytics, and web development just to name a few.

Employee Spotlight: Emily Ziser

Emily is Facilities Management’s Training and Marketing Specialist, and July will mark her two-year anniversary with us! She is a UC Davis alumnus, graduating with a BA in Evolutionary Anthropology.

Customer Spotlight: Soli Redfield

Soli is a Large Animal Patient Supervisor, and has been with UC Davis for 20 Years! After graduating from college, her first job was with UC Davis at Teaching and Research Animals Care Services (TRACS). She worked there for two years before getting hired at the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH), which is the #1 ranked School of Veterinary Medicine in the nation. Soli also studied at The American Academy of Grief Counseling where she received certification in Pet Loss.

Employee Spotlight: David Dryden

David has been an Automotive Technician for Fleet Services for two years and loves it. He works on mechanical repairs on the university's fleet vehicles. He describes his managers and coworkers as "friendly, supportive, encouraging and helpful", and as a swing shift worker, he's able to help out with repairs so that operators can use their vehicles during their day shift. The automotive field is an ever-changing industry, and David strives to keep up with the technology by taking new training courses as they become available.

Student Spotlight: Sirarpi Hovhannisyan

Meet Sirarpi Hovhannisyan, a fourth year Cinema & Digital Media and Communications major who has worked in the Energy and Engineering Office as a communications intern for the past two and a half years. Her duties include learning about energy efficient programs on campus and finding innovative and creative ways to promote the projects and teach students about energy efficiency.

Student Spotlight: Cassandra Ng

It is all about creativity and communicating for third year, Communications and Professional Writing student Cassandra Ng. She began working in Operations Support as the Communications Intern in November 2020. She quickly become a valuable asset to the team, using her talents to create billboard slides, creating and editing newsletter articles, and revamping the Facilities Management social media pages.
