Three large industrial dumpsters stand side by side outdoors. The left dumpster is filled with twisted metal scraps and sheet pieces, the middle orange dumpster holds stacked wooden planks, and the right dumpster contains broken chunks of concrete and brick.

Large Solid Waste Drop-Off and Landfill Services

Large Solid Waste Drop-Off and Landfill Services

As of September 1, 2025, the Waste Water Treatment Plant closed to non-authorized use. This page provides information on how campus departments can dispose of large construction and demolition materials such as concrete, wood, metal and green waste.

Departments have two options for managing large solid waste:

1. Landfill Services

Facilities Management provides dumpsters in a range of sizes to support campus construction, renovation, and cleanout projects. This page includes everything you need to know about bin sizes, costs, sorting requirements, and how to request service.

How to Request a Dumpster

  1. Submit a service request through the Facilities Management Customer Experience Center.
    Include:
    • Desired bin size
    • Type of material for disposal

  2. Our Custodial & Waste Management team will confirm delivery details, weight-based charges, and hauling logistics.

Sorting Requirements

To support proper recycling and landfill diversion, dumpsters must be dedicated to a single material type:

  • Concrete
  • Wood
  • Metal
  • Green waste

Mixed construction and demolition materials are not allowed in the same bin.

Dumpster Size Guide

Bin Size, Capacity & Uses

  • 10-yard
    ~3 pickup truck loads
Heavy debris (concrete, wood, metal). Only size available for construction & demolition materials.
  • 20-yard
    ~6 pickup truck loads
Medium cleanouts, light renovation debris (not C&D)
  • 30-yard
    ~9 pickup truck loads
Large cleanouts, remodeling, bulky waste (not C&D)
  • 40-yard
    ~12 pickup truck loads
Major cleanouts, large-scale debris removal (not C&D)
  • 50-yard
    ~15 pickup truck loads
Very large projects with significant debris (not C&D)

2. Self-Service Hauling

Departments that want to transport their own construction and demolition materials can set up a Yolo County Landfill sub-account through Facilities Management (FM) Utilities. This ensures accurate billing and allows UC Davis to track hauling data for monthly sustainability reporting. For metal recycling, departments need to set up their own account with Green Zone Recycling in Woodland.

Questions?

Email solidwastedata@ucdavis.edu for assistance with sub-accounts, reconciliation, or landfill hauling.

Request an Account

Before you can self-haul your solid waste, you must establish an account with Yolo County Landfill.

  1. Email solidwastedata@ucdavis.edu with the subject:
    Request Yolo County Landfill Sub-Account

  2. Include in your request:
    • Department name
    • Recharge chart string
    • Department contact (name + email)
    • Reconciliation preference:
      • FM reconciles invoices (requires scanned gate slips emailed after each haul), or
      • Department reconciles invoices internally and sends approval to FM for payment.

Using Your Account

Once you establish a sub-account, provide the information to the driver hauling the solid waste. They will need to share it in order to enter the gatehouse.

  • Drivers must provide the correct UC Davis sub-account name at the landfill gatehouse for accurate billing.

  • Departments outside of Facilities will receive invoices directly; these must be reviewed and approved before Facilities' Utilities department can process payment.

Metal Recycling

Metal waste is not accepted at Yolo County Landfill. Departments must recycle it through:

Green Zone Recycling Center
📍 225 Industrial Way, Woodland, CA

Contact Green Zone directly to set up an account. They will work with you to schedule pickups.
