Team Spotlight: Business Intelligence Group

The Business Intelligence Group (BIG) is helping transform how Facilities Management (FM) uses data to support decision-making, improve operations, and solve complex organizational challenges. The team consists of Mallory Gatchalian, Eddy Johnson, Daniel Colvin, Kiernan Salmon, Nate Rodriguez, and Kim Arthur.

Comprised of staff with expertise in data analysis, reporting, user experience, customer service, and operational systems, the group brings together a unique mix of technical and practical knowledge from across FM. Their shared mission is to make data more accessible, actionable, and meaningful for the entire organization.

BIG currently supports a wide range of reports and dashboards used throughout Facilities Management, including budget allocation reports, labor forecasting, customer satisfaction surveys, personnel dashboards, work task aging reports, and leave balance tracking. One of the team’s most important responsibilities is creating reports that help inform decision-making at all levels of the organization. By combining data integrity, statistical analysis, and operational expertise, the group helps leadership and staff better understand trends, identify inefficiencies, and make informed choices.

Task prioritization within BIG has evolved over time. While projects were previously directed primarily by senior management, the team now works collaboratively to identify and prioritize requests based on organizational need, potential impact, and level of complexity. This approach has allowed the group to become more responsive to operational challenges across Facilities Management while continuing to support leadership initiatives.

One example of BIG’s innovation came through the development of automated comp time dashboards within the FM data warehouse. Previously, obtaining this information required manual requests and time-consuming data gathering.

By automating both the data collection and reporting process, the team created a more efficient system that provides stakeholders with timely, accessible information while reducing administrative burden. The project reflects BIG’s broader focus on automating workflows, improving reporting accessibility, and streamlining business processes.

The group also continues to expand FM’s reporting infrastructure through the use of Tableau, Aggie Dash, and automated data refresh systems. Current data sources include UCPath and TRIRIGA work task data, with future plans to incorporate additional systems such as M5 and Aggie Enterprise. This scalable approach allows the team to continue building new dashboards and analytical tools that support FM’s growing operational needs.

BIG members each bring specialized expertise to the table, allowing the team to stay current with developments and advancements in their respective areas. The collaborative nature of the group has become one of its greatest strengths. Team members have taken ownership of their individual roles while working together to solve problems, improve processes, and support one another’s work.

The team can help anyone with data analysis or reporting needs. The group takes individual requests, and any FM staff can reach out for help.

Looking ahead, BIG’s goals include continuing to grow the group’s reach across Facilities Management, expanding into broader process flow and data analysis work, creating intake systems for FM staff requests, and keeping senior leadership informed through ongoing reporting and analytics efforts.
