New Accessible Pedestrian Signals at Mrak Hall Dr. & Old Davis Rd.
UC Davis Facilities Management has completed upgrades to the traffic signals at the intersection of Mrak Hall Drive and Old Davis Road, restoring them to full operation and installing new Accessible Pedestrian Signal (APS) devices.
The new APS units are designed to enhance safety and accessibility by offering multiple ways to activate the walk signal:
- Push-button activation
- Touch-free wave activation — simply wave your hand in front of the sensor
In addition, the devices provide audible and vibrotactile cues to guide pedestrians of all abilities. Pedestrian countdown timers are now available on both sides of the intersection, serving those traveling east–west and north–south.
Please be patient when crossing. The signals are programmed to maximize safety for both pedestrians and drivers.
What’s changing for pedestrians and drivers?
- For pedestirans: The safe-crossing signal will no longer activate automatically. You must press the button or wave to activate the walk signal before crossing.
- For drivers: This system reduces delays, particularly during low-traffic times, since vehicles will not wait for a pedestrian countdown when no one is present.
