This quarter we’re highlighting one of our business partners that keeps business at Facilities Management running smoothly, Derrek Kelly! Derrek has worked for Facilities Management (FM) as a financial services supervisor since January of 2022. 

In his role at FM, Derrek supervises two different teams. The first is a team of business analysts that work individually with our various departments. The other team is made up of two accounts payable specialists and two purchasing coordinators, whose job it is to procure materials and services for work tasks and pay any external vendors. Derrek personally manages the asset management and safety operations portfolios as well as oversees all of campus’ recharge accounts!

Derrek says his favorite part about working for FM business partners is the leadership, integrity, and transparency within the department! He also says he loves being a part of a campus department that serves such a crucial role in maintaining the safety and security of students and staff. Derrek appreciates that he has a sense of purpose in his role and understands the goals he is leading his teams toward. 

One of the biggest challenges of working at FM, says Derrek, has been going from an environment in which everyone has a lot of financial acumen to one in which he is one of the only ones. It can sometimes be challenging to solve problems when there aren’t others in the same area of expertise to work with, he says. However, Derrek loves working with different FM directors and is always excited to see new changes in departments or positions! He says he can tell that management is pushing to make the business better. 

In his free time, Derrek loves staying active.  In fact, one of his favorite work memories is winning the long put competition at our 2022 golf tournament! He is also part of an adult rowing team and plays in a Topgolf league. Derrek loves watching sports, including cricket and football, and spending time with his golden retriever Duke.
