The annual UC Davis Campus Safety Lighting Walk on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2025 brought students, staff, and local residents together to assess campus lighting and identify areas in need of improvement. Equipped with flashlights, participants walked through different parts of campus, calling attention to non-functioning lights and dimly lit areas.

UC Davis Facilities Management oversees more than 13,000 exterior lights across campus, and thanks to funding from the Campus Security Improvement Project, additional lighting, security cameras, and emergency call boxes are being installed in key locations. Future projects will integrate lighting improvements with campus construction efforts for increased efficiency and security.

Participants noted the tangible impact of past safety walks, with improvements already implemented in several areas. The event also served as an opportunity for community engagement, reinforcing the importance of proactive campus safety efforts.
