Grounds and Landscape Services, part of Facilities Services alongside Custodial and Waste Management, plays a critical role in the Arboretum and Public Garden’s efforts to develop and maintain the campus landscape. The unit maintains the core campus landscape, the campus urban forest, and portions of the south and west campus areas.
Our professional service employees include laborers, operation engineers, irrigation specialists, sports turf experts and arborists.
The green inventory we nurture and maintain includes more than 26,000 trees comprising over 100 species, 300 acres of lawn/turf, 50 acres of shrubs and 25 acres of groundcover which together sequester over 640 tons of carbon annually.
About outdoor event services
In addition to maintaining and stewarding our campus landscapes, UC Davis Grounds and Landscape Services provides a variety of services to support our university's numerous outdoor events.
Hosting an event on-campus means more than just booking the space. There are a variety of services available to support and enhance your event — from sprinkler shut-offs, to clean-up before and after, to stage and barbeque rentals. The staff in UC Davis Conference and Event Services, Custodial Services, and Grounds and Landscape Services know what it takes to prepare your venue and accommodate your guests.
On-campus Customers
Campus groups, including departments and student groups, must place a work order for services related to their on-campus events. Because of budget limitations, there is a charge for event support services to campus departments, and this needs to be accounted for in your event budget.
Exceptions
You do not need to place a work order for events held in any of the following facilities, where you will work directly with the facility manager to arrange event support services:

Off-campus Customers
UC Davis welcomes off-campus groups to host their events on campus. Conference & Event Services (CES) provides full service event planning and registration services. They specialize in corporate, athletic, and special events, and offer logistical planning, on-site coordination, and all the amenities of the campus. All special event services, including set up, clean up, special equipment, etc., are scheduled through your CES event planner, who will provide rates, cost estimates and invoicing as part of your event service.

On-campus services and rates
The staff of UC Davis Grounds and Landscape Services provide event assistance to campus departments and student groups on a recharge basis. These services include:
- Zero Waste and trash bin set-up and removal
- BBQ rentals
- Stage rentals
- Generator rentals
- Irrigation shut-off
- Power washing
- Leaf blowing
- Lawn mowing
- Plant trimming
- Weed spraying
- Additional trash removal
Rates for these services are established through the campus rate approval process. Fee estimates are based on the number of attendees expected. All the costs listed below are estimates based on how many hours of labor are necessary, charged at $88 an hour.
Prices are subject to change based on extenuating circumstances such as events lasting longer than planned, additional trash bins needed, etc. Late requests — requests made 72 hours or less before event date — will incur a 1 hour ($88) fee in addition to whatever services are requested. The Grounds team will make every effort to accommodate but cannot guarantee the resources/services will be available.
The rates below apply to internal campus departments. A non-university differential (NUD) charge is applied when outside organizations hold events on campus (NUD details). Contact UC Davis Conference and Event Services for cost estimates.

Making a request
Please place requests for event-related services at least two (2) weeks in advance through our campus's online work order system. Include all of the following information:
- Your name
- Phone number
- Date of event
- Time frame of event, including set-up and clean-up time
- Start and end time of the event itself
- Departmental Chart of Account
- Specifics about what you need done, such as:
- Zero waste set-up and removal (strongly encouraged)
- Site preparation and clean-up
- Stage and/or riser rental
- BBQ rental
- Adjusted watering schedule
After your work order is submitted, a customer support representatives will review your request, confirm it via email and/or contact you with any questions.
