TherMOOstat Stories

An Unideal Spot For a Thermostat

Sometimes a singular thermostat controls a range of spaces in order to service larger buildings' heating and cooling more efficiently. However, some thermostat locations aren't in the best spot for temperature control.

Investigating Wellman Hall

Since TherMOOstat was made available as a comfort reporting tool in 2015, our team has been studying Wellman feedback to thoroughly understand the comfort issues in this building and work toward a solution.

How Do Occupancy Sensors Affect Airflow?

One way to be energy efficient is to only heat and cool a building when it's occupied. Let's take a closer look at how occupancy sensors can play a role in comfort.

Investigating Young

Lily was a Green Buildings Intern at the Energy Conservation Office. She investigated Young Hall after we received unprecedented amount of cold and chilly feedback. After analyzing the data and conducting site visits, Lily was able to recommend appropriate vent adjustments.

Thermostat Wars

Thermostat wars can cause plenty of energy waste. In this post you’ll find out a little more about what’s happening in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system when the thermostat wars begin!.

What's Really Going on in Your Classroom

In this article, you’ll learn about how occupancy levels, among other things, affect the temperature of your building. Here, we take a closer look at Wellman Hall, although the same processes occur in other buildings.

How TherMOOstat Helps With Heating and Cooling

Although buildings are classified as lab, office or classroom buildings, not all of its rooms are the same as the building type. The classrooms and offices in the building should have different HVAC programming than the labs because the rooms have different purposes

How TherMOOstat Helps With Thermostats & Setpoints

1. In January, we received feedback reporting abnormally cold temperature. Although our system didn't report any alerts of mechanical failure, the comments prompted us to dig a little deeper. 2. This new sequence was tested in the summer months and we learned through TherMOOstat feedback that the spaces were getting a little too warm.

How TherMOOstat Helps With Cooling Controls

1. The consistent cold votes suggested there may be an issue with the cooling controls to room 1001. 2. By the end of January, there were 4 chilly and 9 cold votes for the same room.
