This quarter we are highlighting Facilities Management (FM)’s newest marketing and communications intern, Emily Reed! Emily is a fourth-year design and political science major and started working at FM this past June. 

Student Commitment to Sustainability

We are delighted to feature Nicole Madey, a Civil Engineering major with double minors in Professional Writing and Sustainability of the Built Environment. Nicole has worked at UC Davis in diverse roles since 2019, including Resident Advisor, administrative assistant at UCD Design and Construction Management, and researcher in Dr. Barbato's lab. With her commitment to sustainability and engineering, Nicole joined Facilities Management (FM) as a Green Buildings LEED Energy Intern starting in January. 

Navigating Dispatch and Development

Senior Sandra Macias has been helping out Facilities Management (FM) customers as a Student Dispatch Assistant at Fleet Services for nearly two years! As a Human Development major and Public Health and Education minor, Sandra has accumulated many skills at UC Davis and FM that will help her in her career.  

From Art History to Marketing

Anna is a fourth-year Art History and Communication double major. As a marketing intern, Anna creates content for social media channels, writes articles, builds monthly newsletters, and works on other communication that may pass through the department.

Undergrad Expands College Career to Master of Sciences

This month, we are getting to know William (Billy) Evans, a student intern at Energy & Engineering. After completing his undergraduate studies as a Biological Systems Engineer, Billy is now a first-year graduate student pursuing his Master of Science in Energy Systems.

From Cars to Microchips

He is a fifth-year Material Science and Technology major while working at FM. Chuy has been with Fleet Services for five months and loves working hands-on with cars. Following his graduation next Spring, Chuy hopes to work in technology.

Grad Students Make Their Mark With Energy Projects

The ECO office gained four new Graduate Student Researchers in the Fall of 2021. All are first-year graduate students pursuing their Master of Science in Energy Systems and using their knowledge to reduce energy use on campus. Each student focuses on niche aspects of energy conservation on campus, ranging from COVID-19 ventilation to housing and dining innovations. They enjoy the blend of fieldwork and data that the Energy & Engineering Energy Conservation Office offers when solving problems.  

From Guinea Pigs to Fleet Vehicles

Meet Sofia Zamora, a student employee in her fourth year studying Animal Science here at UC Davis. Following her graduation this spring, Sofia plans to attend veterinary school. As a Student Dispatcher, Sofia answers customer emails and phone calls and works with others to manage fleet vehicles.

Bridging Design and Functionality in Utilities

Meet Daniel-Valentin Bruma, a Landscape Architecture major who is graduating this spring. Daniel has been a student intern for the Utilities department within Facilities Management since Fall 2021. Daniel's responsibilities include updates to computer-aided designs, or CAD files, as part of the Utilities team.

From FM Intern to Future Social Worker

Celeste Angulo is a fourth-year student employee pursuing a double major in Anthropology and Chicano Studies with a minor in Linguistics. Celeste’s first job with UC Davis began working as an intern for Facilities Management Operations Support, Customer Experience Center.
