The honey locust is a tall deciduous tree with an open branching habit. The flowers are sweet pea shaped and the fruits are borne in pods.

Habitat: Prefers rich soil, regular water, and full sun. Will tolerate poor drainage. Roots may damage paving if planted too close to it.
General Habit: Deciduous, grows to 70 ft. tall with a broad vase-shaped canopy.
Notes: Thorns are present on branches. Leaves to 10 in. long divided into multiple leaflets. Small flowers followed by 1 ft. long pods. Leaves drop early in fall and appear again late in spring.
