The bald cypress is a tall cone-bearing tree that loses its leaves in the winter. It is one of just two deciduous conifers on this tree walk (dawn redwood the other deciduous conifer).

Habitat: Tolerates boggy to dry soil, but prefers moderate water, prefers neutral to acid soil.
General Habit: Deciduous, grows to about 60 ft. tall & 30 ft. wide, pyramid-shape.
Notes: Found in swamp regions of the Southeast U.S.A. Swamp specimens grow "knees", or special bumps on the trunk which are thought to help the tree get air while the roots are in water.
