The dawn redwood is a tall deciduous cone-bearing tree. Its leaflets hang gracefully from the branches, giving this tree a soft textured appearance.

Habitat: Prefers moist soil conditions.
General Habit: Deciduous, fast-growing, tall tree with upright growth. Fluted trunks in older specimens.
Notes: This tree was thought to be extinct until after WWII when a stand of trees was found in China.
