The coast redwood is a tall evergreen tree with a pyramid shape. This tree usually has a single trunk, but can often be multi-trunked in the wild. This is the most commonly planted tree on campus.

Native Range: Coast Range from Southern Oregon to Monterey County, California
Habitat: Prefers moist, well-drained soil on flatlands and sloping conditions on coast.
General Habit: Evergreen tree can surpass 350 ft. in older specimens.
Notes: Some specimens are estimated to be about 3,500 years old. The Coast Redwood is the California state tree. This is the most commonly planted tree on the UC Davis campus.
